  • New York Zen Community is a Sangha dedicated to Shikantaza Zazen and Dōgen study. We offer lectures exploring the teachings of Dōgen Zenji and other Buddhist texts, with a focus on their practical relevance and integration into daily life.

  • Part of a global network of disciples and students of Okumura Shōhaku Rōshi of the Sōtō Zen School of Japan, we are under the direct lineage of Sawaki Kōdō, Uchiyama Kōshō and Okumura Shōhaku.

  • An expanding collection of resources is being curated to support independent Buddhist study.

Dōgen's Personal Journal:
Hōkyō-ki

Peek in as we work on original English and French translations of Dōgen's personal journal in which he recorded his teacher, Nyojō's, answers to his questions about Dharma.

Flower Garland Sūtra:
 Intensive Study

We continue to learn about walking the Bodhisattva Path as we dive deeper into this awe-inspiring cosmic celebration of Dharma.

This month, we meet at Catherine's to continue sewing Buddhist robes in the traditional way inspired by Dōgen and Kōdō Sawaki Rōshi's appreciation of the kesa.
