  • New York Zen Community is a Sangha dedicated to Shikantaza Zazen and Dōgen study. We offer lectures exploring the teachings of Dōgen Zenji and other Buddhist texts, with a focus on their practical relevance and integration into daily life.

  • Part of a global network of disciples and students of Okumura Shōhaku Rōshi of the Sōtō Zen School of Japan, we are under the direct lineage of Sawaki Kōdō, Uchiyama Kōshō and Okumura Shōhaku.

  • An expanding collection of resources is being curated to support independent Buddhist study.

Peek in as we work on original English and French translations of this fascinating journal in which Dōgen recorded his teacher, Nyojō's answers to his most pressing questions.

Each month, we dedicate a day to deepening our shikantaza practice, alternating between periods of Zazen and Kinhin.​ Join for the entire day or any part of it.
